Chialsa Sept 2026
Jude and I had a wonderful trip to Chailsa October 9-30th 2026.
The weather in Kathmandu was hot 28 degrees, and the weather at Chailsa was perfect, blue skies and 20 something but cold after 4pm and during the night.
We, as usual, on arrival at Chailsa were warmly greeted by Samten and the crew of little helpers.
The Gisela had decided, now that Dr Spela has passed away, he feels free to offer the Medical Clinic as the permanent home of the Dental Clinic,
We inspected the new rooms and made sure first the power supply was up to speed for our equipment load. The electrician up graded the fuse to a 32 Amp and seemed to take the load comfortably.
We now have a permanent dedicated Dental Clinic at Chailsa!
The Dashain Festival holidays disrupted our visit a bit as most of the students went home for the holidays. We did manage to see about 100 students though and some drop in Villagers. We were a bit grateful for the less hectic pace so we could settle into the new Clinic space and make it ‘our’ new home. On leaving, we packed up all the Dental chairs and units and stored them in the room next door, which we used as the Steri space, to allow the Clinic room to be used for any passing medical people( a bit unlikely) when we are not there.
Sangye was keen to meet us at Kopan as the powers that be wanted to present us with a citation for our 10 years work at Chailsa! So on behalf of all of you we accepted gifts of a plaque and books and Buddhist offerings plus the obligatory scarfs. Last count I have 32 white scarfs and 10 orange!
In addition to the Medical Clinic accommodation at Chailsa, there is adjacent, up several steps, another cottage with similar amenities which would cater for 2 more in a team. So in April if Chris and Lesley take 2 or 3 others there would be room for all.
We visited the new Nunnery Dental Clinic with Sangye back at Kopan. Very impressive. Seems all set up power on chairs installed, they seem to light up when switched on. We did not start the compressor, but it all seemed to be plumbed and ready? Xray has been moved so it can reach one chair at least, just!
So, a worthwhile trip and things now seem set up for the future.
Namaste,
John and Jude
