A Record Number of Volunteers 2024
The enthusiasm of a record number of twenty dental personnel resulted in the several groups making an immense impact on the patients at Kopan and Chialsa.
The years’ work started with Jenny Tan and Sarbin spending time in February treating the newly arrived monks. In April Chris and Lesley returned to the remote location in Solukhumbu looking after the school children in the ever-growing Mount Everest school in Chialsa.
Kopan monastery was well served by three teams over a period of four weeks, which included a temporary room at the Kopan nunnery which was setup by a wonderful group of 5 Lithuanians led by Jurga . This was the first time the nuns had their own dental clinic. This has led to the planning of a completely new dental and medical clinic for the 370 nuns. Kopan Monastery has engaged a Malaysian architect to design a 2-story medical building which will provide medical and dental care.
The combined effort of these teams resulted in over 700 patients receiving extensive dental care. The treatment provided include all aspects of general dentistry. The inclusion of further equipment such as B class autoclaves, portable Xray machine, rotary files for root canal and ultrasonic scalers resulted in a record amount of work completed. The inclusion of an experienced Australian dentist made it possible for many impacted third molars to be removed.
